Vivek Kundra Feels Ideally Federal Information Should Be Public, Not Secret for National Security

In an era when you are likely to have more friends online than in the real world, Web 2.0 way of life cannot be dismissed. And for the first time ever, the Federal government is no longer ignoring it either. With a Presidential campaign driven by the Internet, it should be no shock that the Obama Administration, specifically Vivek Kundra, is using the Internet to touch base with the American public. This Gov 2.0 initiative is all about transparency of government and participation of Americans.

As it stands now for Vivek Kundra, he will use his previous experience as CIO in Washington, D.C. to look for ways of utilizing technology that can allow the internal computing systems and services to run faster in the United States government. During his brief tenure in DC, he originated many campaigns regarding tax-saving technology. He has also made gains by switching over the software used internally throughout the United States government for email and spreadsheets to the versions made by Google. Another well-known effort Vivek Kundra made was leading initiatives to increase the amount of publicly available government information while decreasing the cost needed to offer this info to the people. Additionally, Vivek Kundra built a contest for developers to enter that would allow him to select the greatest software applications for the official Washington D.C. homepage.

Established by President Barack Obama, Vivek Kundra has become the first Federal CIO ever. He is constantly operating to revolutionize IT in the public sector using principles of participation, collaboration, transparency. With erstwhile expertise has CTO for Washington, D.C. Vivek Kundra has the knowledge and credentials to meet the Information Technology challenges before him. His past expertise at the District and State levels equipped him well for this task.
