Some of the Common Myths Surrounding BoTox Therapy
BoTox is now in vogue amongst smart Sydney society and now it has become a grooming necessity for many in the city. Nevertheless I am always amazed when I listen to the ludicrous gossip surrounding this routine treatment.
I have listed below some of the popular myths that we come across all the time in Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I practise as a doctor.
Error Number 1: My facial muscles will stiffen up!
There are 60 or so muscles in the human face. The excessive use of these muscles over time can cause fine lines or wrinkles. If surplus BoTox is used the facial muscles can sometimes become less taut. The amount used by most doctors will result in you seeming less tired, however you will remain just as expressive.
Indeed a carefully calculated injection of BoTox in the proper site means facial expression is protected whilst the fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed.
Error Number 2: Botulinum is poisonous!
This to some extent is correct. Botulinum Toxin Type A is the exact pharmaceutical terminology. Too large a dose may end up in loss of muscle tone and can even make you extremely sick.

Chemists have a well-known saying that states ‘everything is a poison – it all depends on the dose’. A large quantity of any medication will bring on illness. Water can be fatal if you take enough.
Error Number 3: Wrinkle injections hurt!
At Star Cosmetic Medicine the physician utilises a hypodermic needle smaller than hair. Several individuals compare the treatments to getting bit by a bug. Certainly not as painful as getting a vaccination.
Error Number 4: BoTox will numb the feeling in my face!
Untrue. BoTox affects the neuromuscular junction, not sensate nerves. Only the ability to relax your muscles is affected by BoTox.
Error Number 5. You cannot stop having BoTox otherwise you might age quicker than ever!
Once More this is just untrue.
One treatment is effective for approximately 3 months. Any further injections after the first visit commonly last a little longer. Gradually as muscle strength builds up again – the lines will reappear bit by bit. But they will certainly be no worse than before.
As A Matter Of Fact the lines will generally be less pronounced than if you had never undergone BoTox treatment – even when you never repeat the treatment. Principally due to the fact that your skin has had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ when the BoTox was effective.
